SWIM LESSONS

PARENT AND CHILD SWIM LESSONS

 

WATER DISCOVERY: 6-36 MONTHS OLD WITH PARENT

A class based on safe guided water exploration.  We will introduce water acclimation and safe techniques for parents to use in order to help acquaint their child to swimming lessons.  This level also helps develop children’s abilities to swim on their own and prepare them for Level 1.  Students will demonstrate assisted front and back floats and participate in games.  Students will also learn about making progress by doing the paddle stroke.

 

 

PRESCHOOL LESSONS

 

PRESCHOOL LEVEL 1-WATER ACCLIMATION

Prerequisites: Must be at least three years old.  No swimming skills, comfortable without parent.

Increase comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. 

 

PRESCHOOL LEVEL 2-WATER MOVEMENT

Prerequisites:  Level 1 skills.

Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. 

 

 

SCHOOL AGE YOUTH LESSONS

STROKE INTRODUCTION

Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back craw and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary back stroke. 

 

STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Introduces breast-stroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and side-stroke.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Private swim lessons focus on a goal or goals for the individual swimmer.  Offered at the Sunbury and Milton YMCA pools.  Contact Kristy Truitt-Reichner, Aquatics Director, at 570.286.5636 for more information or to set up private lessons.

 

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Prerequisite:  Minimum age of 15 years, must be able to swim 300 yards continuously. 

American Red Cross training includes:  CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard.  PLEASE include a current email address when registering online so learning instructions and other information about the class can be sent.

   

 

LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION

Prerequisite:  Must present a lifeguard certification that is still valid on the first day of the course.  Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously. 

Only for participants who previously passed a lifeguard certification course.  American Red Cross training includes: CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard.  PLEASE include a current email address when registering.  Participants must attend all classes listed for that session; no make-up classes are offered.
