Parents are NOT allowed on the pool deck during lessons. The Fridays will be used as storm makeup days, if needed.


Water Acclimation
Prerequisite: Swimmers must be able to enter and exit the pool independently and maintain control in the water with the aide of a swimming flotation. They will start to explore the water with help. This class is for beginning swimmers that still need a flotation device.

Stroke Introduction and Development
Prerequisite: Participants must be able to swim without a flotation device in the deep end. In this stage participants have mastered the basic technique in the front and back crawl, as well as, the elementary backstroke. They will be introduced to Butterfly and sidestroke at this level, as well as, building their swimming endurance. 

Water Movement
Prerequisite: Swimmers in this level should be starting to control their body in the water and make forward progress independently. They should be starting to swim in the shallow end without a flotation device. They will explore the water without the help of an instructor. They will also develop basic skills to propel and glide through the water and learn basic water safety.

• Water Stamina
Prerequisite: Swimmers must be able to swim across the width of the pool independently. This stage develops forward movement on the front and back, integrating arm and leg action, and introduces rhythmic breathing. Skills will be practiced in deeper water.

• Parents are not permitted on the pool deck.

• Swim Basics

Description - Swimmers must be able to enter and exit the pool independently and maintain control in the water with a swimming bubble. In this stage participants focus on body position and control, directional change and forward movement in the water. Stages: 1.) Exploring the water and personal skills without instructor help 2.) Developing basic skills to propel and glide through the water without instructor helps 3.) Learning basic water safety

• Swim Intermediate

Description - Swimmers must be able to swim by themselves with their face in the water. They will learn free style stroke and breast stroke.

• Parents are not permitted on the pool deck.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS & PRIVATE GROUP SWIM LESSONS

Private swim lessons focus on a goal or goals for the individual swimmer.  Offered at the Sunbury and Milton YMCA pools. Contact Kristy Truitt-Reichner, Aquatics Director, at 570.286.5636 or kreichner@gsvymca.org for more information or to set up private lessons.

 


 

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Lifeguard Training will be posted when scheduled - check back regularly!

May 6th 4:30-7:00 Pre-test (in-water)

May 21st 9:00-5:30 CPR/First Aid/AED followed by In- water instruction

May 22nd 9:00-5:30 In water instruction/test day

Prerequisite:  Minimum age of 15 years, must be able to swim 300 yards continuously. Tread water for 2-minutes with no hands.  Retrieve a 10lb object from the bottom of 10ft depth.

American Red Cross training includes:  CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard.   

Participants must attend all classes listed for that session; no make-up classes are offered. 

 

LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION

May 22, 2022

Sun @ 8:30 AM-5:00 PM (8 hours 30 minutes)

Prerequisite:  Must present a lifeguard certification that is still valid on the first day of the course.  must be able to swim 300 yards continuously. Tread water for 2-minutes with no hands.  Retrieve a 10lb object from the bottom of 10ft depth.

Only for participants who previously passed a lifeguard certification course.  American Red Cross training includes: CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard.  PLEASE include a current email address when registering.  Participants must attend all classes listed for that session; no make-up classes are offered.
