“The bikes used at the Lewisburg YMCA Express group cycling classes are the original bikes the former owner purchased when she opened her fitness center,” explains Bonnie McDowell, CEO of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA. “If we want to continue having success with the classes, we had to do something right away.”
“As an instructor, I would like the members to have the safest, best experience that they can on an indoor bike. The bikes are ridden 7 days a week, which is a lot of wear and tear. We want to provide our members the experience of riding a bike that is more current with the times,” said Jeanne Potratz, group exercise instructor at the Lewisburg YMCA Express.
The Lewisburg YMCA Express has kicked off a fundraising campaign with all donations going towards the purchase of all new bikes for the group cycling classes. T-Ross Brothers Construction Company learned of this need and has partnered with the Y to raise $25,000. They have generously offered to match every donation, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.
“With the increase in the attendance of the cycling classes at the Lewisburg Y Express, there have been many times when people have been turned away due to not having enough bikes. I, for one, enjoy the classes that are given at the YMCA Express and would love to help the YMCA have a group cycling area that they can be proud of and that we all can enjoy, as well as keeping us healthy! These new bikes will be able to be taken to the new YMCA once the facility has been completed so the money will go to a great cause. This is why T-Ross Brothers is happy to help the YMCA replace the old bikes with nice, new, smooth running units!” Todd Ross of T-Ross Brothers Construction said.
Donations can also be mailed to the Lewisburg YMCA Express at 131 Silvermoon Lane, Lewisburg PA 17837. For more information, call Bonnie McDowell at 570-286-5636.
