Come Swim With The Dolphins!

Practice starts in October
Swimmers are devided into four levels depending upon their age and ability....as determined by coaches.
Both YMCA and USA swimming competitions are available.
Ages 6 - 10
Swimmers in this group are at the novice level. They must be able to swim one of the competitive strokes 25 yards. Focus is on learning all four strokes by teaching technique in a fun environment.
Ages 10 - 12
Swimmers in this group can already swim 25 yards of most competitive strokes. Skill development and proper technique of the four competitive strokes are the top priorities. The emphasis is on stroke and skill refinement.
Ages 12 - 14
Swimmers in this group have shown proficiency in all four strokes. They are capable of following workouts and instructions. Proper technique and skill refinement are emphasized while more practices and endurance training are offered. Attendance is expected.
Ages 13 and up
Swimmers must be able to compete in all four strokes and 200 IM. These swimmers are committed to intense training and senior-level competition. Regular attendance at practices is required of individuals in this group.
The Sunbury Dolphins make use of two separate swimming facilities. They are Susquehanna University and the Sunbury YMCA swimming pools. With two facilities at out disposal there are more options for available swim times and fewer swimmers in each lane.
The season begins in early October and extends until early April for those going to nationals. Fees vary depending upon swimming level of the student-athlete based on their practice group placement.
Swimmers must compete in at least three YMCA meets during the season to be eligible for additional competition. At meets we measure progress, experience competition and strive for individual and team accomlishments.
Our competitions include dual meets, invitational and championship meets. The goal is to be a team that supports all swimmers through different tracks that swimmers and families choose to compete at based on their inclination, desire and athletic ability.
The Sunbury Dolphins have had great success in training swimmers to compete at the highest levels. Last year the Dolphins sent 54 swimmers to the East Field District Championships, 32 swimmers to PA State Championships with the 11 - 12 and 15 - 19 women winning the state title. We sent 16 swimmers to the YMCA National Championship in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The Sunbury YMCA team placed 28th at the National YMCA short-course championships, while the boys' placed 27 and girls' squad placed 45th.
YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving emphasizes the overall development of the athlete. It promotes not only physical achievement, but also mental and spiritual growth. The National YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving Committee govern YMCA swimming and conduct the YMCA National Championship Meets.
