GSV Y Reopening Guidelines

REOPENING WITH CARE

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to the Y. We recognize how important it will be to follow current health guidelines and implement new practices to ensure a healthy and safe environment. You will see new cleaning routines, signage to assist with social distancing, and limited activities where social distancing or guidance tells us it is not yet safe. Please keep in mind, these guidelines are subject to change based on new information or additional guidance from health officials.

WHAT IS THE Y DOING TO KEEP ME SAFE?

CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING
  • Touch-free check in using membership card
  • Protective barriers (sneeze guards) at check in
  • To ensure proper social distancing, our wellness areas will have a limited capacity. At times of full capacity, you will be asked to wait in a designated area until space is available.
  • Guests and Nationwide members will not be allowed access in an effort to practice safe physical distancing. Facility use will be for members only.

ENHANCING FACILITY CLEANLINESS
  • Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, locker rooms, and shared spaces will occur frequently throughout the facility.
  • Various spaces within the facility may be closed briefly for cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Slight adjustments to facility hours to allow for daily, after-hours facility-wide cleaning

INCREASING NUMBER OF HEALTH AND SAFETY STATIONS
  • Additional safety stations with wipes, paper towels, hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies will be available.

SUPPORTING AND MONITORING OUR STAFF & MEMBER WELLNESS
  • Staff members will receive a temperature check and health screening prior to starting their shift each day.
  • Staff will be asked to wear appropriate masks while on duty.
  • Members will be strongly encouraged to wear a cloth face covering or mask while entering and exiting and in common areas like lobbies, hallways and locker rooms.
  • Time has been reserved at each GSV Y branch from 2:00pm-3:00pm for members Age 62+ and members at high risk.

HOW CAN I HELP KEEP MYSELF AND MY COMMUNITY HEALTHY?
  • Arrive at the Y dressed to workout. By doing so you reduce touch points and help increase social distancing.
  • Wash/sanitize hands frequently, especially upon entering the Y.
  • Wipe down equipment before and after use.
  • Maintain social distance. Please exercise only on designated equipment and respect all signage regarding social distancing. Strive to maintain at least six feet between you and others whenever possible.
  • Cloth face coverings or masks are recommended for members while in our YMCA facilities, especially while entering and exiting and in common areas like lobbies, hallways and locker rooms.
  • Please do not come to the YMCA if you have a fever, are experiencing flu-like symptoms, or have been in close contact with someone who is ill.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
  • Please bring your own workout towel, yoga/stretching mat, lock for a locker and water, during this reopening period.
  • Cloth face coverings or masks are strongly recommended for members while walking in our YMCA common areas

REOPENING – FAQs

  • Why are we signing another waiver? Our insurance company has asked us to have all members sign a new waiver before entering our facilities. If you have not signed our new waiver Click Here to Sign. You will need the number on your membership card to sign the waiver.

  • Why no Aqua Classes if we are having Group Exercise classes? We are not able to control social distancing guidelines in aquatic classes. Water jog will be an option until we can resume Aqua Classes.

  • How do we register for Group Exercise classes? Members must create an online account to register for classes. Click Here to Create an Online GSV Y Account. Details and instructions for registering will be sent in a separate email.

  • Time limit on cardio machines? There is no limit if no one is waiting. If we have multiple members waiting, we will need to enforce a time limit.

  • Time limit in facility? No, unless we reach 50% occupancy.

  • Can I use other GSV YMCA locations? Yes. If you have a GSV YMCA membership you have access to all four GSV YMCA branches.

  • Can I still walk in the gym if nothing else is going on in the gymnasium? Each Branch location will manage the use of these areas. Some may have other programs or services in these spaces. Please stay patient with us as we manage these new guidelines.

  • Can Active Older Adults sign-up for Group Exercise classes? Yes. We are not telling Active Older Adults that they cannot come to other classes. This age group is at a higher risk, and we are not offering Active Older Adult specific classes in phase one.

  • Can we sign up for membership? Yes, nonmembers can join at any time. Guest passes will not be sold and the free week membership is not available during phase one of reopening.

  • What if I show up and you are at maximum capacity? If the facility or any room in the facility is at our adjusted max occupancy we will limit additional members from joining.

  • Can we have the sauna, steam room open if we do one at a time? At this time we are not opening those areas of our facility. We need to ensure that our staff can manage all of our new restrictions, procedures and facility occupancy before we increase the number of members using our facilities.

  • Is there going to be a delay getting into the facility? We do not anticipate that there will be delay getting into the facility.

  • When will programs start? The dates are TBD.

  • Why no basketball, pickleball, youth sports and no racquetball court? We are encouraging social distancing.

We will continue providing our GSV YMCA members with Virtual Group Exercise classes LIVE on Facebook with our very own instructors and YMCA 360 classes and videos.

Please be sure to sign our new waiver prior to coming to the facility to help limit delays upon entering. Click Here to Sign.

We ask for your patience and understanding as we slowly reopen and implement these new procedures and guidelines. The safety of our members and staff is our number one priority.
